Neenah wins Hortonville

October 15, 2006 – 11:16 am by: Nick Bubb

This weekend 12 Varsity Policy teams gathered in Hortonville. After six rounds of competition the tournament broke to semi-finals. In semi-finals, Brookfield Central BK defeated SPASH WT on a 2-1 decision and Neenah Defeated Brookfield Central on a 3-0 decision (Voss, Maylander, Olson). In the final round of competition, Neenah OO (Ivie Okundaye and Osahon Okundaye) defeated Brookfield Central BK (Nick Brown and Katie Klante) on a 2-1 decision (Olson, Bubb, Jannush*). Congratulations to both teams and their coaches; Cory Puuri and Paul Hager. Ivie Okundaye won the Scott Weeman award by one point, over her brother, Osahon Okundaye.

Brookfield Central affirmed and argued a critical draft affirmative. Neenah negated arguing T – establish, normativity, militarism, politics and solvency. The 2NR went for Normativity and Militarism.

Competitions were also held in LD, Public Forum, and JV and Novice Policy. Two seperate tournaments were held on Friday and Saturday for PF, JV, and Novice. Since I’ve lost my results packet – I can only remember LD.

In Lincoln-Douglas, the tournament held a six round tournament and broke to semi-finals. In one semi-final Hortonville CF defeated Sheboygan North NT and in the other semi-final Winneconne KF defeated Neenah AK. In the final round Winneconne KF defeated Hortonville CF.

  4. Obvious congradulations to Neenah and Brookfield. Also, though, major props to some of the younger competitors at Hortonville…the Brookfield sophomores, SPASH, and the ladies from Appleton, just to name a few. For the most part, I was impressed by what I saw.

  5. I was also very impressed by my first Wisconsin tournament. It appears that WI debate will be around for a while with the younger folk that made a great showing.

  6. I thanked her in person, but a special public thanks goes out to Kristi Plamann for an efficient and enjoyable tournament. I hope to see many of you at La Crosse, another one of my favorite in-state tournaments. Peace, Cory (PS isn’t it Ironic that Ivie wins the Scott Weeman award and now Scott is going to be her asst. coach?)

  7. One more comment. I saw a few quality sophomore debaters in the VSS division at Hortonville. Major props go out to all of you sophomores for braving the VSS division! Incidentally, Neenah will be introducing another Okundaye to VSS this weekend at La Crosse. The dynamic 8th grade duo of Nick Bezier and Amen Okundaye will be making their debut.
