Announcing the Madison West Forensics Workshop
October 31, 2007 – 12:31 am by: Nick BubbJohn Rademacher, head forensics coach at Madison West high school, has assembled a compelling forensics workshop. The entire forensics community is welcome to participate. John writes,
Madison West High School will host a Forensics Workshop on November 17 from 8:45 AM to 12:15 PM. This will be an excellent opportunity for students and coaches new to forensics to get tips and advice, and for the experienced students to find inspiration and ideas from some world-class public speakers and performers.
The morning will be introduced by Fred Walder, Senior Vice President of Thermo-Fisher Scientific, describing the value of forensics in the “real world” and how to captivate your audience. Matthew Rothschild, the editor of The Progressive magazine and host of the nationally syndicated “Progressive Radio” will talk about the importance of speaking out with passion about issues that really matter. Donna Peckett and Danielle Dresden of TAPIT/new works Ensemble Theater will perform along with other multicultural and nontraditional theater troupes from around the country.
The second half of the morning will consist of break-out sessions focused on various forensics categories. Erik Greenfield, newscaster for WTDY radio, will give advice and coaching on how to put together the perfect 5-minute Radio newscast. Lance Bentley, a lifelong storyteller, will lead a session on (you guessed it) Storytelling. Carrie Bohman, a former archivist for the Wisconsin Historical Society and current history teacher, will lead sessions on Moments in History and Public Address. Anna-Lisa Dahlgren, a three-time WFCA state finalist and current captain of the UW-Madison forensics team, will lead sessions on Oratory and Solo Acting. Members of the Madison chapter of the Toastmasters will talk about Special Occasion speeches. Other sessions will be led by experienced current forensics students from Madison.
