Honestly, i think that there might have been a better option available; topics such as education, government spending, or even capital punishment.
Thoughts?

I agree… This is a waste of time

It’s easy to be an armchair quarterback about topics, but you can take action by sending your topic ideas to: nfl@nflonline.org. Be sure to include rationale for why your topic(s) is/are worthy of consideration.
Remember, though, the point of Public Forum is to explore a variety of issues with different actors. This topic, at first glance, may seem trivial. However, consider the popularity of SN Web sites. Many businesses consider marketing and networking through these sites to be an invaluable resource. These sites are often stigmatized among your age group, Nick, but they also have a variety of uses outside the education sector.

I would also recommend looking into social networking’s ability to integrate younger people into the political sector. A bunch of new studies just got released that discuss facebook/myspace’s impact on the recent election. These studies conclude that the political debates and enthusiasm about the recent election that were sparked by SN sites may have been one of the main factors for the young voter turnout. Just a thought…

Yes — although I don’t have a MySpace profile (I just can’t stand the interface of that site), I did watch one of the debates live at their Presidential Debates page. It also had some fun, interactive pop-up polls reacting to what the candidates were saying during the debate.

I actualy think that this is going to be a fun and exciting topic, because it seems so easy and yet there are many things that you can debate on both sides. so people who do not like this topic is because they just dont want to admit that they are socialy akward.

this topic is a really stupid topic, but it’s one that’s easy to argue on both sides. neg and aff are both full of information…

I completely agree. This is definitely something that is very much a part of our society. It’s something that, if treated right, can be a useful tool in talking to people you don’t see everyday. I have a Facebook page, and I also have friends from all over the country. It’s a way I can keep in contact with them. On the other hand, these social networking sites can cause problems. Online predators is at the top of the list. That’s the biggest problem, but others are there too, like spending too much time on the computer, which can cause health problems. This is going to be a very interesting debate topic and I, for one, can’t wait!
