(Sorry, Marquette Alums. I’ll change the password when you start playing football again. Or at least when you don’t steal recruits away from Bo Ryan.)

WFD Brewer Game

Posted on April 21, 2009 – 9:01 am by: Nick Bubb

Wisconsin Forensics Daily hosted a Brewer Game a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away (like when the Brewers had pitching). We’ve tried to host WFD Brewer Games since then to no avail. We are trying again this year. We believe that engaging with members of the debate and forensics community outside of a competitive atmosphere makes us better coaches and helps remind us of our goal of teaching students.

This year’s game is scheduled for Saturday, May 30 against the Cincinnati Reds. The game time is at 6:05. Depending on how many coaches show up, we may opt to do a tailgate as we did back in 2005. Where the tickets are depends on how many people sign up.

How is this going to work? If you want to go, leave a comment on this thread or send an email to Nick Bubb (njbubb AT gmail DOT com). We will work out ticketing for those who have committed to go. Please understand that in order for this to work once you commit to going, we are going to assume that you will purchase a ticket.

Coaches and judges have until May 12 to let us know if they want to attend. After that day, we will purchase the tickets.

WFD Experimenting with Twitter @ WFCA State

Posted on April 17, 2009 – 10:44 am by: Nick Bubb

WFD is experimenting with twitter at this weekend’s state tournament at Ripon College. If the experiment goes well, we’ll jump head-first into the twitter stream.

You can follow WFD on Twitter by using the following link: http://twitter.com/wiforensics

If you’re twitter savvy, you can also follow all of our posts about the 2009 WFCA State Tournament by searching for the following hash tag: #WFCA2009

WFD Back Online

Posted on October 2, 2008 – 10:33 am by: Nick Bubb

Wisconsin Forensics Daily is back online after a week of being on hiatus due to some user hack. My guess is that this was due to a WordPress security flaw and a lack of administrative updates, instead of a malicious student. There are a few tweaks that need to be made to bring back all of the features of the site. Many of specialized pages and plugins need to be updated to bring the site back to what it used to look like. Thank you for those of you who wrote me messages of support. I was about ready to pull the plug on the site entirely and if it was not for your support I may have done so.

Extremely special thanks to Brandon Sheats. Without him, WFD would be lost. Seriously. We didn’t back up any of our own data. The site was only restored because Brandon helped us in March and still had those archives and the first affimirmative has been aggregating WFD’s content for sometime.

My challenge to those of you who read this site is as follows: If you believe in making Wisconsin debate and forensics as open as possible; if you believe in breaking down financial, geographic, and philosophic barriers to competition and learning; and if you believe in the power of sharing information; then you need to rededicate yourselves to the purposes of this site. We need results of EVERY tournament, not just those that Bill Batterman and I happen to attend. We need pictures of EVERY event. And we need to return to open and honest discussions that made this site a model for other operations around the country.

WFD Hacked

Posted on September 30, 2008 – 3:20 pm by: Nick Bubb

Hello all,

Wisconsin Forensics Daily was hacked last Thursday. I’ve been working hard with Brandon Sheats and Bill Batterman to reconstruct the site. We will have results from Marquette and Nicolet’s tournament posted shortly. I apologize to all of the debate coaches who need WFD to be able to do debate work in Wisconsin.

Thanks,

NIck

WFD Brewer Game: Redux

Posted on July 10, 2008 – 7:07 am by: Jon Voss

Wisconsin Forensics Daily invites all WI debate and forensics coaches to “roll out the barrel” and “take themselves out to the ballgame”!

Brewers v. Nationals
Saturday, August 9th
First Pitch: 6:05p.m.

Especially recently, it’s become very difficult to obtain tickets for Saturday home games. Anyone interested in attending needs to email me at consult.australia@gmail.com BY AUGUST 1ST!

Anyone who doesn’t email me by that time is still welcome to purchase his/her own ticket and come along, but will miss out on the ticket deal WFD works out with the Brewers ticket office.

If agreeable to most parties, we would like to tailgate before the game. More details will be available as we move closer to the 9th.

Rostrum Article on Online Collaboration

Posted on May 2, 2008 – 11:29 am by: Nick Bubb

The National Forensic League’s monthly magazine, Rostrum, has published an article written by Wisconsin Forensics Daily founder Nick Bubb and champion coach of Lincoln Douglas Debate, Mike Bietz.

The discussion is about the benefits provided by online debate and forensics communities and how adult coaches can get involved. You can read the article, posted online, in the link below.

Wisconsin Forensics Daily Third Annual NCAA Hoops Pool

Here’s the information. Join and you’ll be celebrated with praise. Refused to join and be taunted and booed. Win and you’ll be remembered forever.

We use Yahoo. The group ID is: 129882

If Stumbris doesn’t play, Mike Traas losses a point. (Just kidding Mike, but seriously – we all want him to pick the Jayhawks as the National Champion and laugh when they fail.)

Wisconsin Forensics Daily NCFL Judge Intiative

Posted on March 10, 2008 – 11:42 am by: Nick Bubb

Wisconsin Forensics Daily has decided to lend its resources to schools from outside of Wisconsin who are attending the NCFL Grand Nationals in Appleton. We have made available our judge list-serv to all schools interested in hiring local judges over Memorial Day Weekend.

We are asking all of our judges to register with the WFD judge list-serve and we are asking all coaches to recommend their judges join the list so that we can reach out to our friends from other states as best we can. Because of large travel costs, many schools simply cannot fly their own judges to Wisconsin. Therefore, it’s imperative that Wisconsin showcases its hospitality. Judges are going to be needed for LD, PF, and Policy Debate as well as in Student Congress and Forensics.

Our judge list is free and puts judges in contact with coaches who need qualified individuals. You can find information about the judge list by clicking the judge tab above. Several requests have already been forwarded to our judge list. If you’re not already registered, you’re missing out!
